I am so happy to finally be able to post this video of Meghan Markle in her first ever acting role on daytime television medical drama ‘General Hospital’ from 2001, when Meghan was just 20 years old. She played a nurse named Jill on the soap, a very small part dubbed “an under five” by casting directors, meaning five lines or less.
I spent most of 2017 looking for this clip, trying to chase down what eventually turned out to be the wrong season, episode number and air date (thanks, IMDB). I then found an old tweet of Meghan’s in which she wrote that “Century City” was her first acting job, which then led me to think that maybe she had no lines on ‘General Hospital’ and was perhaps barely visible in the scene(s) – but she was credited and her character had a name, so I kept searching and was lucky enough to find a lovely lady named Stacey aka Curlyqgrl, who is a ‘GH’ super fan with an astonishing memory and expert knowledge of the show.
Then in December, ABC aired a 20/20 special that showed part of Meghan’s appearance on the show (hurrah, it exists!) and its casting director Mark Teschner talking about her role. From that we learned that she appeared in two episodes, and not in the winter of 2002 but in the summer of 2001. It took Stacey no time to narrow down the episodes and here we are. Check out the appearance below, and huge thank you to Stacey for her help in finding this.
