It’s January 1st 2018, the start of a new year (the year of MM, obvs) and the start of a new weekly format here on Meghan Maven. With constant news reports, rumours and updates throughout each week, it can be difficult to keep up and not every little thing needs its own blog, so, I will be doing weekly threads pinned to the homepage, showing you the latest news at the top, to save you some scroll time – so please check often for updates. Of course major events such as royal engagements, THE WEDDING, and noteworthy throwbacks will have their own threads, which I will link to from here so you don’t ever miss a thing. Happy New Year, M&M’ers! Here’s to a love-filled and exciting 2018.
Us Weekly is reporting a source saying that Meghan wants her mother Doria Ragland to walk her down the aisle in May, instead of her father Thomas Markle. “With the wedding, they both want to do things their way. While they will always be mindful of traditions and the views of their elders, the day is ultimately about them and what they want to do,” the insider tells Us Weekly. “The day of the wedding itself will certainly hold a few unconventional surprises. Don’t expect a royal wedding by numbers. They want to involve their friends and family as much in as much as possible throughout the day.” The source adds: “I’ve heard that Meghan wants her mother to walk her down the aisle, which would be a sweet moment.”
Kensington Palace today announced Prince Harry and Meghan’s first official royal engagement of 2018, which is going to be a visit to Reprezent Radio in Brixton on January 9th.

The Sun today ran a little speculative piece on where Meghan and Harry may go for their honeymoon in May; with rumours of Rwanda, Hawaii, Turkey, Botswana, Mexico or Zambia potentially being the destination.
It turns out that Meghan and Prince Harry didn’t ring in the new year in Nice, France, after all. The Mail Online now reports that while the couple have been staying on the French Riviera, they took a helicopter ride to nearby Monaco on December 31st, meeting up with friends to bring in 2018 in style. ‘Monte Carlo is party central at this time of the year and the word is that the British Royals really enjoyed themselves,’ a source in the principality said. ‘What’s certain is that they were partying like tycoons on New Year’s Day. Fun around Monaco is never understated, and always costs a fortune.’
It is speculated that Meghan and Harry may have partied with Prince Albert and his wife, Princess Charlene, who are the most senior royals in the French state. Harry and Meghan are reportedly already back in London.
The Mirror has further details about their trip.
The Sun ran a rather random story today, in which it was claimed that the director of ‘Anti-Social,’ a 2015 British gangster film that Meghan starred in, was pressured by movie bosses to write a nude scene for her, saying that it would make it more successful. The director, Reg Traviss, however refused on the grounds that it simply wasn’t needed for the story. He told The Sun “Other people definitely would have taken advantage. I think the reason I didn’t do anything like that is because other people would have. It wasn’t needed for the story. I remember at early screenings of the film, various distributors and people like that were like ‘Oh there’s no sex scenes or nude scenes’. Often they look out for things like that because they feel that it sells.”
Mail Online exclusively revealed that Meghan and husband-to-be Prince Harry rang in the new year with friends in Nice, France. The couple traveled economy class on a scheduled British Airways flight out of Heathrow airport on the morning of December 31st, boarding before any other passengers and sitting themselves down at the very back of the plane, by the rear toilets. They had 3 rows of seats to themselves and were flanked by 3 ‘edgy and nervous’ looking bodyguards. Harry reportedly sat by the window, trying to remain incognito with a baseball cap, while Meghan was spotted by fellow passengers in a black beanie hat and very little make-up. Upon landing they were met by heavily armed French officers, ready to whisk them through the VIP area. The couple are expected to spend several days at a private residence in the Riviera region.
